Training

We are open to existing Flyballers, and especially to beginners who wish to find out more about Flyball. It is fun, fast, noisy and EXCITING!. Rooky Racers train at Birchin Inhams Farm, Heathlands Road, Wokingham, RG40 3AP on Saturdays at 09:30 for Improvers and 10:30 for Beginners

Flyball is available for all - whatever the breed (or mix), whatever the shape and whatever the size. If your dog loves tennis balls and has a reasonable recall then come and give it a go!

Some dogs will pick it up straight away, some dogs will take many months, or even longer! However, providing you are enjoying it, you can do it just for fun or take it to the level of competing with our race team in various competitions in the South through the Spring and Summer. The only requirement for your dog is that they are ball-mad and are good on recall. It is great fun for the dog and for the owner/handler. We teach the dog to go over the 4 hurdles, trigger a box at the other end which fires a ball, catch the ball, and return over the hurdles with the ball back to the handler. We teach the handler when to release the dog and what to do to encourage the dog to return correctly. We then teach how to race within a team of 4 dogs, how to release one dog as the other is returning, to create the fastest time. We also train the handler in all aspects of Flyball and how to handle the dog correctly and safely.

We run regular Beginners Courses (8 x 1hr weekly sessions) to help you get going. After that, you are welcome to join the Rooky Racers as a Full Member. Contact us for more information flyball@rookyracers.co.uk
